Valentine’s Dinner

First off I’d like to apologize for the pictures as I forgot my camera and all I had was an iPhone to photograph our dinner. I should have known that the romantic atmosphere wouldn’t be conducive for capturing our dinner on virtual film.

We decided on the French restaurant Les Faux Bourgeois (Kingsway/Fraser) that my wife has heard many good things about and let me say….it certainly didn’t disappoint. There was good ambiance, extremely busy, and the service was great.

SAUMON POELÉ (17)Pan roasted wild Salmon, crispy nugget potatoes, braised kale and mustard seed and dill créme frâiche.

Here was my choice via the restaurant’s website: Pan roasted wild Salmon, crispy nugget potatoes, braised kale and mustard seed and dill créme frâiche (17). I measure the greatness of a meal by whether I would order it again, and I would have this again in a heartbeat. The kale…of all things…was my favorite part of the meal.

My wife and I shared a green salad (6) and I use the word shared very loosely. It was quite large for the price and a simple yummy vinaigrette. My wife kept most of it to herself :-) as she used her fork to block me from getting more as the salad started to disappear. Her main was Filet De Boeuf Grille (19). Tenderloin with potato gratin and glazed vegetable, choice of: Red Wine Shallot Jus; Herb Butter; Green Peppercorn Cream Sauce. She orders her steak rare and it was perfectly done. The potatoes were not amazing, but the rest of the dish made up for them.

We finished with an amazing Chocolate Silk Cake (12) that had a hazelnut bottom, strawberries, whip cream, and truffles on the size. The best strategy for eating this was to have a little bit of each and make a perfect mouthful.

Total bill was $56.70, before tax.
